This site showcases the work I did as Staff Member, Copy Editor, and News Editor of the multiple Pacemaker award-winning newspaper The Little Hawk. I published ~30 stories and ~5 infographics/fact sheets over 3 1/3 school years (February 2013 – May 2016). As the News Editor my senior year, I managed ~10 writers on a daily basis.
I learned how to
- Write on tight deadlines–working to get the paper in at 12AM on a Monday
- Research a news story
- Successfully interview people from high school students to New York Times journalists and university professors
- Write in different styles and formats, including: opinion, news (longform, beat, and breaking), and features
- Create infographics/fact sheets for various material
- Evaluate and edit other people’s work
- Collaborate with a team of 3 other editors
- Constructing page ladders
- Modify stories for different mediums
- Identify relevant news pegs
- Manipulate a WordPress-like (SNO) website
Praise for my work
Great research and news pegs.

I’m editing a book…and I’d like to include the recent essay by Olivia Parrott, “The Greening Movement.”

Your quotes [are strong] in general. Good job with interviews!
